Patras, Greece

Wow, Christmas has passed by already. How time flies! Doesn't really feel like the Christmas season though due to the hot, sunny weather here... But anyway, here's a nice little card from Greece. I found it while packing my room.

A wonderful night view of the Rio-Antirrio bridge! Located near Patras, it links the town of Rio to mainland Greece. Today, it is the world's longest multi-span cable-stayed bridge. And yes it looks magnificent by night. The difficulty in constructing the bridge lay in the fact that the bridge in located at a site where seismic activity is quite common. Hence, it is really quite an engineering feat!

This is the envelope that I received my card in. The two stamps portraying the sea urchin and sea turtle are part of a set of 10 stamps issued on 21st February 2012 on the animals in Greek seas. (Click on the hyperlinks to see more.)

The stamp with two children playing soccer is part of a set 6 stamps that commemorates the games of the old neighbourhood. It was issued on 18th April 2012

The stamp showing the Tzoumerka mountain and a man climbing it is part of a set of 6 stamps too. They were released on 25th June 2012 based on the theme of touring.

The last stamp showing a man is part of another set of 6 stamps. Issued on 30th November 2011, it features Greek actors.

Thank you Dimitris for the beautiful card and all the lovely stamps you attached on the envelope!
