Pyramid of the Moon, Teotihuacan, Mexico

Here's an interesting card from Mexico showing the Pyramid of the Moon from the enormous Teotihuacan archaeological site in Mexico. I got it from a swap with Niza. You can see the card that I sent her here.

Teotihuacan was a city that is thought to have been established around 100BC and construction continued till about 250AD. At it's zenith in perhaps the first half of the first millenium AD, it was the largest city in Pre-Columbian America that housed perhaps 125,000 residents. A pretty impressive feat at that time eh?

The two stamps at the top are from a set of 6 issued on 19th June 2008 to commemorate icons of wrestling. I'm not a fan of wrestling matches, but I find these stamps pretty cool! The stamps at the bottom were issued in 2011 to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the National Polytechnic Institute. It comes in a sheet of 50 I think.

Thanks Niza for the wonderful swap!

  1. Hi:

You can find more information about the "unknown" stamps at the bottom on the following website: http://www.tbsealsmexico.org/seals/2011.htm

Every year they issue a set of 50 stamps with different themes.

    Have a great day!
